Take One: Action! is the UK's first major film festival all about people and movies that are changing the world. The festival celebrates Scotland's global connections - from South Africa to Nicaragua - and explores global challenges in which Scotland has a vital role to play - from climate change to the rules about how poor nations trade.

The programme features new and classic films, director and campaigner Q&As, audience discussions, video-making workshops and special events for schools. Above all, it is a unique chance for audiences to find out about and get involved with the work of Scottish change-makers - including film activists and environmental and social justice organisations.

Highlights (outlined below) include:

  • Scottish and UK premieres
  • Q&A with award-winning director Nick Francis (Black Gold)
  • Q&A with Ken Loach's Cannes winning screenwriter Paul Laverty (Carla's Song)
  • Panels with visiting campaigners from Cost Rica, Nepal, Mali and Scotland
  • The 24 Hour Film Challenge
  • Climate change short film competition
  • The BIG Clothes Swap-O-Rama

Issues covered include:

  • Corporate and economic responsibility
  • The arms trade and conflict
  • Environmental justice
  • HIV and global health inequalities
  • Citizenship and democracy
  • Women against injustice
